I had the pleasure of seeing Avatar this weekend. I watched it with my daughter who is 12. She was seeing it for the second time in as many days. What's her fascination? Was it the effects? Yes. Was it the 3-D elements? Yes. Was it the superb-realism in sound? Yes. Was it the captivating world that James Cameron makes feel so accessible? Entirely.
This is the most brilliant use of 3 hours on film I have experienced in my life. Sorry art-film fans this movie is for real. James Cameron spent 500 Million dollars on Avatar and in just three days grossed (which means the film is not close to making money) over $200 million dollars in ticket sales.
The blended realistic animation, animatronics and live action submerses you into a situation that feels real. It feels. It really does suspend your imagination with a lot of great new technology.
You would almost think this is just a review. It kind of is. I would only add one thing about Avatar as it relates to making content in general:
The story was really, really good. To be a great movie it had to be. Cameron seems instinctive about this.
Enjoy the movie. Let me know what you think.

Good review! I think we've got a new career for you: Movie Reviewer! Heck, you could have your own TV show reviewing movies. I could be your co-host! If only we knew a TV show producer. Nuts. No, wait. You're a TV show producer! Oh, man. This is fate.
