100 Most Popular TV shows of all time.

It's the hundred most popular TV shows.

No, you won't find Happy Days or MASH at the top of this list. As you can well imagine, the shows that are the most popular over the history of TV is based on the most viewers and is based on the current line up of shows available through all sources. So this means that you will find some shocking placements. The one that really got me was Saturday Night Live which I love to hate and have for so long now I don't remember the show ever being good.

Enjoy the list. Click here to view it.

I would really like to hear your comments on what you discovered on this list.

RedFish extends it's services to local broadcasters to create local ads.

Having produced over 100 commercials in the last three years, one department at RedFish seems to keep bustling through all seasons: Local TV commercials. It has been a constant in the young life of RedFish Studios and has continued to find ways to make local commercials look network quality at budgets well under national ad creative budgets.

There are, like in the production of any commercial, challenges that drive new solutions with every spot we make. Nothing is insurmountable in commercial production if your writing is spot on. There is no point writing a commercial that is too expensive to produce or will just look badly produced. Let the script and story board do the heavy lifting. It is possible to create an inexpensive local commercial if your creative works on that basis. Write it cheap and clever.

Now RedFish Studios, who already produces localized spots for Canadian Broadcasters such as Global, Sun TV, and various specialty channels, will begin to work with local broadcasters in markets across North America. Our focus will be on helping broadcasters get new clients on air. Without creative they can afford, buying media is out of the question. Now local TV ad sales departments will be able access RedFish Studios for small-time commercials that make a big difference to the station's bottom line.

Avatar is OUTSTANDING - A new world of production.

I had the pleasure of seeing Avatar this weekend. I watched it with my daughter who is 12. She was seeing it for the second time in as many days. What's her fascination? Was it the effects? Yes. Was it the 3-D elements? Yes. Was it the superb-realism in sound? Yes. Was it the captivating world that James Cameron makes feel so accessible? Entirely.

This is the most brilliant use of 3 hours on film I have experienced in my life. Sorry art-film fans this movie is for real. James Cameron spent 500 Million dollars on Avatar and in just three days grossed (which means the film is not close to making money) over $200 million dollars in ticket sales.

The blended realistic animation, animatronics and live action submerses you into a situation that feels real. It feels. It really does suspend your imagination with a lot of great new technology.

You would almost think this is just a review. It kind of is. I would only add one thing about Avatar as it relates to making content in general:

The story was really, really good. To be a great movie it had to be. Cameron seems instinctive about this.

Enjoy the movie. Let me know what you think.

Angela with the mad skills- Last Editor Standing

I often wonder what Angela tells people she does for a living. I recall as a group we had a hard time coming up with her title....Creative Post is what I think we came up with. Truthfully, a name for what Angela would only be under-playing.

Angela is an artist (painter among other things), music enthusiast and patient soul. Her work with us at RedFish is paramount. She oversees almost everything we put on TV from creative and editing perspective. She edits like a son of a gun! It's really quite something. Did you know these things?

Regardless, what I am writing about today has nothing to do with Angela's editing (she spends countless hours in the edit suite doing that very thing). This is to commend her for her efforts in working with myself and Humble Howard Glassman in her directorial debut on Last Bride Standing. I tuned that sucker in this weekend and it is a really enjoyable show. There is a great buzz about what Angela and Howard have been up to in the editing suites over the last few months. Howard has written an brilliant script and together the two of them have concocted a great representation of what went on at LeJardin Event and Conference Center early in the fall.

Look for her credit on Last Bride Standing. Angela Schermaul - Director.

Very good work.

The Last Bride Standing. A point of chat every time.

As the clock ticks down to the next episode of LAST BRIDE STANDING (am I shouting?) I am having a chuckle about how many family and friends have been excited to chat about this new show I have been working on with Carlo Parentela and Humble Howard. Even the guys. Sorry to 'out' you guys.

Everyone has an opinion about the show. Each week I get text messages like this:

"Just watched Last Bride Standing. Intense, dude"

"I just saw that show. These women are tense, huh? What drama queens!"

"You gotta throw that bitch off the show! She is nuts!"

I am not sure who the last quote was directed toward and when I asked him later if he meant Clara, he said..."Nooooooo! She has to stay!" Everyone wants to know what Carlo is really like. (By the way, he is a really good guy. You would like him a lot) and what it's like working with Humble Howard (By the way, he is one of the greatest parts of my week every week).

Everyone in my circle of friends and family is, for the first time in my life, talking about a project I am working on like they have emotional stock in it. I think they do. That makes me very proud of a lot of people. Tomorrow I will tell you all about one person in particular who amazes me every single day at RedFish. Here is a hint...SHE is the only female in our office. Heaven help her.

Enjoy the show. It's on soon.

Watching what companies do with video online

There is no doubt about it: the world of video online is enjoying the beginning of it's real hay day. The world seems to be finding every excuse, every means to watch and create video that will garner attention on the web. It has gone from the Jack-Ass world of stunts and outlandish captured video to a place where video needs to have a purpose - training, news/information, education, entertainment, interaction are all some of the launch pads for the new era of video.

I often joke that prime time used to be 7-11pm in our homes in front of the TV and now it is 9 to 5 at work in front of the computer surfing YouTube, NinjaVideo or any other means of free content that will stream to PCs with ease on our high-speed connections.

It was an interesting journey this weekend as I looked around for clues as to where the future of broadcast online is taking us. Well, I have to admit, save for a few really "thinkamified" players out there, many content providers are still trying to repurpose TV content rather than create new adventurous content just for the web.

Sure, there are a few publicly-funded experiments out there that spend big money to license and try to monetize online but seem to be failing. Then there is YOUTUBE-style sites that rely on users to create, promote and recommend content. You get what you pay for here. It is almost always an unsanctioned video of something that gets all the hits.

In the future, content online will have the same demands placed on it that any kind of popular content has, the only difference is that distribution will be much harder. How to do you show how beautiful your tree is in a forest of 100 million trees? Well, the same old same old will take hold for sure: Promotion through mainstream means, popularity by discovery and paid promotion to get an audience. Video will likely not become a million channel universe, but a means to find what you want, verify it is the best out there, and generates income for the content creator. It won't be long before the behemoths that make our movies and TV shows will take this space when the small players just give up.

Keep watching what companies do online with video over the next year or so. Technology is stagnant for video. It is as invented as it can be and still be useful right now. The next year will show us what humans can really do with the video streaming we all demanded 10 years ago. Now it has arrived and stabilized as a technology. Let's see how money is made with it now.
